Additional Comments: I've posted this on the Y&R personal topics board but would like more info. My hubby and I are planning on taking Amtrak from Ohio to California (50 hours) in September instead of flying. Short delays are anticipated - no problem for us. We will have our own tiny room and bath with shower. Has anyone here ever travelled Amtrak? If so, what was the ride and services like? Thanks.
my daughter takes Amtrak all the time from San Jose to Santa Barbara where her college is.
it is really nice ride! We have to remember to book early as they raise prices if its close to take off time.
I want to do a trip like that but from Calif. to Washington then across the country, fly back.

Message: Paul went to Ca last year w/ his grammie. They left from cincinnati. They enjoyed it. The California Zephyr is a very nice train. They rode the Cardinal from cincinnati to chicago and then the CA zephyr to CA. The way back is the Texas eagle. Not as cushy. Message: Hi! We were on Amtrak riding from Chicago to Ny about 9 years ago. It was a complete and utter nightmare beyond our wildest expectations. HUGE delays..awful...BUT...You have your own little room whereas we just had normal seating, so that makes all the difference in the world according to others that have spoken with us. :):)
