American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert challenged his fans to give to the charity Donors Choose instead of buying gifts for him, which he appreciates but doesn't need. Donors Choose funds projects for schools across America. The contest between Adam's fan boards netted over $229,000 and has helped over 90,000 students. The contest is over but the fans are still giving.
One project that I donated to is due to expire in 6 days and still needs funds. The teacher in a moderate poverty school in Nebraska wants a karaoke machine to help her children gain reading skills through singing. There was a story on NBC News last night about a teacher doing something similar, using music as an effective tool of learning other subjects. If you'd like to make sure that this project goes through, please donate! Obviously, you don't have to be an Adam Lambert fan to donate--you just have to care about our schools. Whatever you can afford would be greatly appreciated by this teacher and her class. Also, if you are on any other boards to which you can spread the word about Donors Choose, feel free to do so!
