No, I'm not talking about kids picking on other kids. It's the teachers picking on kids. Today on GMA, they had a little kindergardener whose teacher would berate him and then had the other kids tell him why they didn't like him. The mother put a tape recorder in his pocket and that's how the teacher was busted.

Then, I was in my car and heard another news report about another teacher who did almost the same thing. The kids in the case were told to vote whether he could stay in the class.

Now a personal experience. I was putting myself through college and moved my daughter and me into what was then called a trailer park. I was doing my student teaching in the same school my daughter started to attend. In the teacher's lounge, I heard another teacher describe my daughter (didn't know I was her mother) as ''one of those trailer park kids.'' Luckily she just had him for one class.

I taught school for fourteen years, but have an opinon that is unpopular with teachers. I think video cameras should be in every classroom. Kids have cell phones now and can take videos with them. They catch teachers at bad moments and would be better if all classes were routinely video taped and both the teacher and the kids knew it.

OMG, your story is somewhat similar to something I heard!  I totally respect teachers, my DIL is a teacher, her mom's a teacher, my best friend's a teacher, but every now and then, a rotten "apple" is exposed.

I used to substitute for our small school system.  I was subbing a high school class for a week and there was this boy who had ADD.  I went to the teacher's lounge for my off period, and a few teachers were in there and one of them, a man, started dissing this kid big time.  As a mom, it just broke my heart.  He is someone's CHILD.  I had the kid in biology the next hour, and the school was having some kind of contest that day where the teacher for each class submits a name of a student in their class for "best behavior" or something like that.  At the end of the day, someone wins.  This kid sat in the front row, right in front of me.  Obviously the other teacher put him there on purpose. lol.  He was extremely sweet, and at the end of the class, I announced that HE was the winner for the hour.  He looked at me in shock.  So did the other kids, but no one said a word, they all clapped.  They were really nice about it.  I have no clue if he won in the end, probably not, but I feel good knowing for an instant I helped this kid's self-esteem whether he deserved it or not.

Teachers CAN be cruel.  Some of them are lacking the compassion gene.
