All the characters suffer in the plot point vortex that eliminates or speeds right over any of the quieter, character enriching parts of the "story" ... these days "story" only means what happens not how anyone thinks or feels or changes. Oh, they will sandwich in a few key emotional scenes, but they can't be bothered anymore to craft the fabric that stitches all the 'happenings' together.
In their rush to get the Carjack roadtrip started they've catapulted Carly right over almost all the stuff that would give her a post-rehab context. We got a cursory scene with each of her children, (well no mention of JJ), and then the disjointed scenes with Craig and Rosanna where we were supposed to believe she was committed to Craig and wanted a life with him and then, when betrayed, simply erupted in an anger that distanced her enough from them so she would have no strings or second thoughts about running after Jack to 'save' the father of her children. They inserted a couple of scenes of her telling Janet to man up and do it herself, and then when Janet didn't, that ostensibly left Carly to do the job.
It's like a check list;
Carly back - check
Carly and Craig over -check
Janet sidelined - check
Jack bonkers - check
Carly called in - check
Jack and Carly out of town - check
Old character review - check
Jack and Carly on the road together - check
It's sad, and it really knocks the heart out of soaps compared to how they once were, but these days it's all about the 'developments' and moving at a pace they think will match the attention span of an over stimulated audience. In the old days they would have taken time to build up to a major development like Carly and Jack finding themselves isolated together in emotionally vulnerable circumstances and by the time we all got there we'd be feeling what they are feeling. Maybe in the old days they would have spent between now and February bringing Carly and Jack closer together as they each struggled with the effects of the changes in their lives, in the relationships around them and in their understanding of themselves and maybe then, after a few key scenes during the holidays, by February sweeps they would have had this road-trip of risk and self-discovery for Jack, and Carly's place in it would actually be more integrated and make more sense, and maybe, just maybe, might not be built upon her chasing a distant, rejecting Jack yet again.
But that's not how it's done anymore. First week of November Carly's back from being off the screen for 3 months and all this has to happen by the end of the month - they've got locations to work in, visiting and returning actors to work in, and some kind of ice-breaking of the Carjack detente. Whew! That's a lot to do in 3 -4 weeks. So, it looks like most of the stuff that would help all those elements make sense and hang together is just too much of a drag on the necessary speed and momentum to be included. We're being asked to believe without much help.
It makes for a pretty thin gruel. As others stated, there's a lot missing and left to the imagination. I'm not really willing to fault the character for that, but rather the writers for not giving the character what it needs and deserves.
With all that said, if they don't bother to fill in enough to really flesh out a different dynamic, and if it stays in the "Carly prostrates herself to reach a rejecting Jack" vein ... then I'll have had enough. I'm hoping they mean it when they say they want to change how it's been, and I'm hoping for a different ride, but even I can see we seem to be on the same on-ramp as usual.

But I think that might be because she hasn't really been able to pour out her feelings with anyone either. And by that, I mean someone completely on her side. She's angry at Craig and Rosanna, and allowing herself to cry in front of them would be more humilation for her. Parker knows, but it's not really appropriate for her to lean on him and cry over it.
My guess is that either Jack or Molly's gonna get weeped on at some point.

I don't think Carly came back with a serious design on Craig- but she expected him to be waiting on pins and needles for her return. I think it was a blow to her self-confidence and her pride to find out she lost her hold on him. Supposedly lost her hold on him, LOL. So yes I agree- she is angry and I think she was embarrassed- not heartbroken- so no faux tears.
If we are to believe that Rosanna and Carly have bonded as sisters over the years then there needs to be a scene where Carly is able to sit down and tell her sister how much her betrayal has hurt her- I don't expect to see that scene. Given their history I think Carlys initial attitude about this being revenge for Mike made sense- it made sense to lash out in anger as if Carly had been waiting for this shoe to drop for years- not really believing Rosanna was over it. That feeling is so superficial- the ache Carly must feel having had her sister betray her must be profound.
For Craigs part, he is a first class A-hole for cheating on his fiancee who was in rehab BUT- it was the same fiancee who loved to use him as crutch more than she loved him, and he knew that. Must have been a huge thing to find that Rosanna of all people loved him. Cro are stomach churning- but it is fairly evident Rosanna loves Craig more than Carly did.
