Additional Comments: The ratings drop reflects this too. The whole thing is so weird. It's like Holden knows it too. He holds her at arm's length. She should have been a different character. She seems like one.

It all depends on the kind of Lily you like:
You can have a hot, sophisticated, MILF Lily or a darb, matornly Lily with mindling looks.
If they hook this Lily up with Dusty it would be realistic- the last time I had a hard time understanding what Dusty saw in this boring, barely cute let alone hot Lily.

Message: I watched Martha since she was a kid in this role and nobody else will ever be Lily to me. NB is an OK actor, she can't help it. Just the way it is after 20+ years. But I doubt seriously that it has a thing to do with the ratings.

Message: I couldn't agree more. The problem is that NB has ZERO chemistry with the people who are supposed to be important to her, like Holden and (especially) Lucinda. I just kept thinking how more powerful the showdown between Carly and Lily would have been if Martha was still in the role.

Message: she's become Lily for me! Usually I am slow to accept a recast, but not in this case. I think she's great. Someone is not truly a fan of the show if they stop watching because one of the actors left. Well, at least I would not stop watching if anyone left.

Message: I think it probably did effect the ratings to an extent, because Lilden fans just can't make the investment in them without Martha in the role. They did the recast for they could do the Holden and Carly have an affair story which hasn't worked either. They should have just had Lily missing and presumed dead. That would have generated some powerful scenes and Holden and Carly could have hooked up anyway with Lily's memory and Carly's linger feelings for Jack between them. If they did a recast it should have been much farther in the future.

I agree that she is just not Lily, and I miss Martha Byrne in the role. However, I'm not so sure that has anything to do with the ratings. I doubt that many Neilson family viewers dropped the show simply because one actor left the cast.
