Topic: ugh! ... Another case of insane previews at the end of Thursday's episode

Additional Comments:

Giving out WAY TOO MUCH INFORMATION in the Parker/Libery story for tomorrow.

And here they almost had me interested in a case of false accusation that might last, oh let's say, A FEW WHOLE DAYS?

More flash/crash drama.

Just more evidence of non-soap oriented folks making the decisions about promoting it using the primetime model, which simply doesn't work.  They aren't generating more viewership, just less.  All of it contributes to the decline.

When they weren't giving out so much information about upcoming episodes and storylines the viewer numbers were FAR higher.  So was the market share, which IS what motivates marketing & Corp. decisionmaking.  But then, those were the days when it was about real storytelling, character driven (rather than plot driven) storylines & soaps were simply far more interesting.  You actually had to tune in to see what happened next, not have it all set out in front of you w/no reason to 'tune in tomorrow'.

I've taped ATWT for over 15 yrs & watched it for over 40.  My tv needs to be repaired, so right now I'm not able to tape anything & catch the show when I can.  I don't miss it.  OLTL has been far more interesting to me than anything ATWT has been offering.  But even that isn't keeping me glued to the edge of my seat, like it should.

I love the previews and they stimulate my interest in watching the next episode.  I'm glad they show them.  One of the main reasons I am on this board is to get the spoilers.  I know everyone doesn't feel that way and it sure makes some posters livid when a post isn't labled spoiler. JMHO.

  • Don't get me wrong. I love the previews too. It's just that some days, I feel they reveal far too much, and could be chosen/edited better. This was one of those days, so a mini-rant from me .. lol! - Ty34

If they showed fewer previews could we see more show? Or would it be another commercial?

  • Perhaps the time alotted to the previews compensates for not having a long main title opening to the show. ..lol! Ty34

Well, it was worth it for me to watch and question whether there was a big fat apology coming Parker, Carly, Janet and Jack's way from Brad. I also continue to wonder if anyone will point out that the dynamic duo are responsible for introducing Leo to Liberty in the first place just so they could play some juvenile game on a teenage boy rather than behave like adults.

Oh that's right...their hearts were in the "right place" so the introduction and pretend pimping of Leo, a complete college-age stranger, to Liberty, a high school girl was excusable if not forgivable. GMAB! Personally, I am sickened to think that there is a possibility that Brad and Katie (yeah setting up Leo with Liberty was Katie's stupid idea) are going to come out of this smelling like roses after all of this is said and done...the ends justify the means as it were even if the ends mean introducing your daughter to a complete over-age stranger and playing games with another kid's emotions.

  • I too want to see a huge apology from Brad to Parker. Help me remember, did Katie and Brad explain to Leo in the first place that they just wanted him to scare Parker off by having the diner dinner? If they didn't they are very culpable for everything that happened afterwards. If they did tell him it was all just a put on and not a fix up then what they did was surely wrong but in no way are they responsible for Leo's actions. eom/Allison
  • I hought it was rather obscene for Brad to immediately accuse Parker when they know that Leo just got through trying to force himself on Liberty the other day. He's no rocket scientist that's fer shure. - Ty34

I try not to watch the previews most of the time because I don't want the story spoiled. But today I watched because I was so upset about the trouble it appeared that Parker was in. So for me it was a relief to see it all sorted out so quickly. Usually though I would agree that it doesn't make sense to rush through a story or to give out such key information in a preview!

  • Perhaps you're correct, and it really does matter how much investment a viewer already has in a particular story as to whether he/she thinks tooooo much is being given away in the previews. I can think of at least one story that I like where - regardless of what they showed me in previews - I'd still watch the next day. lol! .. In this case, it's taken me a long time to care much about Parker, even less about Liberty, so when I actually started to aniticpate tomorrow's show, then they showed the previews, I felt, gee, do I even have to watch now? - Ty34

Exactly what I thought when I saw them.  No need to watch tomorrow!

  • I'm glad I'm not the only one .. they can't find something less revelatory .. something intriguing? .. One wonder who selects these awful previews? - Ty34

Exactly!  Why bother to watch?  If I were a psychologist I might be able to explain why TPTB assume our little pea brains cannot handle a story that lasts more than a week.

  • So true ... and I know CBS has been struggling with getting viewers to tune-in on Fridays - but why bother watching - when the show reveals THREE whole plot points to one story in Thursday's preview? I just rolled my eyes when I saw what they did. Makes no sense. - Ty34
