Topic: 1.8 rating. Great job Chris and Jean.

Additional Comments:

Chris and Jean certainly know how to drive away viewers by demanding on focusing on the show's dullest characters. Holden is about as interesting as a lump on a log, yet he is heavily featured dragging the once interesting Carly down into his pool of mediocrity. Then there is Parker a child with a lousy hair cut and one miserable expression, who is on day after day after day. These two would be bearable in small doses. These two are not characters that should be sucking up 75% of the shows airtime.

Hears a little advice Chris and Jean.

Katie needs to come off the back burner in super bitch mode and reclaim her husband, by driving Liberty and Janet out of town.

Send Parker to his room and don't let him out until he's seventeen.

Send Holden to muck out the barn and let him stay there.

Give Barbara a love interest. Perhaps with Brian. I'd love to see the claws come out between Lucy and BarBar.

Stop pussyfooting around with Luke and Noah. The fear shown dealing with these characters is not interesting. Dare to be bold and give them something exciting to do. A boring foundation not so interesting.

Stop making Carly so pathetic. I also want to see Jack come crawling back to her. Over broken glass of course.

Bring back Martha Byrne as Lily.

There is much more but this is a start.

I like your advice, but please once Katie runs Liberty and Janet out of town it's time for her to go on the back burner.

No, no, no!  Katie on the backburner is the best thing that has happened in a long time!  The only way I'd want to see more of her is if she's finally going to pay the price for her many crimes by being locked in the stocks while everyone she has wronged throws rotten fruit at her!

Seriously, though, what I really think needs to be done is an equalizing of the storylines.  Certain characters seem to dominate for months on end and even characters I used to like become tiresome when they're in my face day after day.  I think an effort needs to be made to give all the characters a storyline, and then alternate the various stories with equal time given to each.

  • I agree with you on on all accounts. This show needs balance and has for years. I don't want to be bashed over the head again and again by any one story, especially a horrible one like Parker/Liberty and Janet. eom/TC2

I agree with many of your ideas but, I am not so sure about Katie being front and center again... backburning Katie was one of the things I thought was good recently. If they made her a super witchy, villianess, like she used to be, I would be ok with that but, no more of As Katie World Turns playing SuperFluff... never, again.  Now, the idea of Katie driving Janet and Libby out of town sounded very appealing. These two are horrible and obviously they are not working as characters because even the younger girls do not seem to like Liberty as the ratings have shown.

I was thinking about how far the ratings will have to drop before someone at P&G starts making big changes. Why does Jean and Chris still have their jobs?  You would think someone besides am actor here or there would get the axe. For me it is all about the bad writing... the writing is what will tank this show unless changes are made.

  • For P&G to make changes, they would have to see the show as salvagable (sp) & they would have to be supportive of it. They are the ones who have mandated the changes that have created the ratings 'problem'. They don't interpret this as a need for positive change. They see it as supporting their p.o.v., that soaps have no future & that they are dying a 'natural death'. As long as they don't believe that there is a viable audience for the genre, they aren't going to be making any mandates for positive change. This decline in viewership is exactly what they want! eom

While I can see your points, none of the soaps on the air today are living up to their potential!  Today's Suits are more than happy w/these insulting, patheticly low numbers.  Instead of striving for something better, they keep making demands that drive the numbers down, not up--no matter WHO is EP or HW.  If this was only an issue for ATWT & if it hadn't been a problem when CG wasn't part of the mix, then I could see blaming him for it.  The same for JP.  But the sad reality is that the numbers were a problem long before they came & as long as the Suits continue talking down to the audience & not making it a goal to overcome these challenges, it will continue.

  • SO, is there anything NEW with you Rosebud? Don't you get tired of typing the same thing?
  • Pansy: The problem is old & so are the answers to correct it. Soaps, in general, have a lot of potential to have a large, strong audience w/healthy market share percentages. But as long as Corp. doesn't believe that & it doesn't fit w/their point of view, then we aren't going to see the necessary changes. It will just continue to be the same old, same old. This has been the case for most of the last 20+ yrs. It would be great if the issues would change & fans could just sit back & enjoy the show, but that just hasn't been the case for a very long time. So whether or not I'm 'bored' w/saying this, it remains true. eom

IA with just about everything you say. Judging by the ratings for girls 12 - 17 the teen story isn't exactly having them jumping around in joy at Parker and Liberty's sorry mess.
