His big ring on his hand is a magnent. It holds the quarter on top of the glass to his ring, but also holds the other one under the table. When he bangs his hand, it loses the 'contact' with the quarter underneath and it falls in to the glass again.

That's my theory anyway.

No clue - wish I knew what he was saying (lol). After moving the mat, initially, I noticed he always wiped his hands on the dark rag - that has got to be part of it. Nope, no idea...
