Topic: So Matt Damon Called the Other Day...

Additional Comments:

I got a call from Matt Damon urging me to support Obama.  It was (obviously) a pre-recorded message.  Just before I hung up, Mr. Ingy heard me say, ''Bye, Matt!  Call again soon.  Love ya, Hon!''  He asked, ''Who were you talking to?''  ''Matt Damon -- he wants me to support Obama.''  Mr. Ingy just cracked up.  He's waiting for his movie star call now. Maybe Jennifer Aniston or Angelina Jolie will ring him up.

Anyone else get a call from Hollywood?

What a sad sad campaign tactic.

  • I really doubt anyone would give money to a campaign based on a call, canned or not, from a celebrity. / Vivian
  • Politicians (on both sides of the aisle) have been doing that for YEARS! I imagine Mr. Damon was the one who volunteered to record the message (er...I mean call Ingy personally!). And it's not a 'tactic,' it's a 'strategy.' JUST KIDDING. I don't know the difference. (hee hee) --susie
  • I respectfully disagree with you Vivian. There are too many people out there that believe a celebrity's opinion carries more weight than the average joe citizen. Why else would Obama use celebrities in that manner? / Hill
  • Hillary, this isn't solely a Democrat ''tactic.'' Granted, Hollywood leans pretty far to the left, but there are plenty of outspoken Republican celebs who would (and have) happily stump for McCain. What worries ME about this topic is that stupid MTV-based ''Vote or Die'' campaign. I can easily see a bunch of newly registered 18-year-olds basing their votes on what Matt Damon says. I oppose this whole ''you MUST vote'' thing. What we MUST do is educate ourselves, THEN vote. If you're not going to do the research, stay home on Nov. 4. --susie
  • Anyone remember Charlton Heston stumping for Reagan back in the '80s? The democrats hardly have the market cornered on celebrity endorsements. ~i&b
  • I could name a lot who have stumped for Republicans but we don't have enough space. Just last Saturday I saw Jon Voight campaign with Palin and he was also scolding a reporter. Some of the others are Dean Cain, Tony Danza, Alice Cooper, Bill Cosby, Steven Baldwin, Delta Burke, etc. Hillary, whenever people are asked if they would vote for someone on the recommendation of a star they always say no. Anyhow, I've never known a Democrat who was that dumb. They bring crowds. That doesn't mean the candidate will get the crowd's vote. / Vivian

Darn that was probably the call I didn't answer, LOL. Actually, if the ID says unknown I try not to answer it. I must get at least five calls a day, either political or for a charity. I ended up giving money to our local Democratic party, which I really didn't intend to do. I didn't even realize it was local till the envelope came in the mail. I'll be so glad when this whole thing is over and it better not start up again as early as it did this time.
