Additional Comments:

I'm starting early this time. A couple of things came in already that I thought I needed to post right away. I still might put on a separate one for other news items and the song list on Monday. The topic travels up the page fast so it just might be easier to put on a separate topic. Right now, some of the song spoilers are in this soon and the big news is about David Archuletta's father being banned from backstage and the rehearsal time. More is developing but read what has come in and comment if you want. Same with the Song choices which I will update as more come in. I'll put these posts separate again here so you can respond on the post or put your own individual post on.

I guess this means that Archie will be the surprise elimination this week, paving way for the inevitable crowning of Cookie as the winner. There is no way that the folks at Idol want to deal with that much drama if they have a winner who will be followed everywhere by his stage dad.

  • That could be, but then you don't know if this will help David A. either. People might vote more for him because he could be in worse trouble from his dad if he doesn't win. Plus, I think that TPTB will take extra precautions with Jeff Archuleta in drawing up that contract if Little David does win. It will all depend on how he does tomorrow night and if he can do well without his father being there. I have a response from David A. about his father in my Other Idol News topic below. ~ eom. Thanks for posting this Linda.  This is exactly why I am rooting for David A. to win.  David C. is by far the more superior performer, but David A. NEEDS it a lot more than David C.  David C. will be able to go on, get an contract easily and do the kind of music he wants to do.  David A NEEDS to win for so many different reasons.  He needs the recording contract and he needs the Idol protection from his father.  By the time his contract with Idol would be up, he would be 18, and hopefully be able to legally emancipate himself from the situation.  I think it's the poor kids only hope to survive.  Kudo's the the shows powers if they have leaked the story and if they have stepped in to protect the kid.  Heaven knows he needs it.

  • Oh, I agree that David C. will be able to go on to a contract without the win, I just wonder if it will be better for David A. to win because who knows what his father would do if he didn't win. Also, David A. will be 18 at the end of this year (his birthday is Dec. 28) but the Idol contract is for seven years. There will have to be something in that contract that stipulates how much control his father has before he is 18. What I wonder about is if 18 is the legal age for this contract? Some legalities require 21 being the age. Either way, with a seven year contract, David would still be able to be free from his father for a portion of the contract. I have David A.'s response in my Other Idol News topic below. ~ eom. Linda

I found this on the same site where I got that information:

ETAA: The Associated Press is wasting no time. They are reporting the story, citing an unnamed source…

Thanks for the info. The David A./father situation hasn't sat well with me since the start. One of the reasons I keep hoping he leaves.

    * Simon Cowell Chose for Him - “First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” by Roberta Flack
Hmmmm - I wonder how long it'll take him to change it to suit his style. Odd choice but David C. might be able to pull it off with some creative genius. I hope so!

  • Sue--I haven't liked this whole situation either and wondered when they were going to do something about it. Whether David A. wins or not, his father will be on him telling the producers what to do if he wins or on David for not doing what he should have to win. I'm hoping that when that kid turns 18 (well, possibly 21 for anything legal) he leaves his father in the dust. ~~ I was so surprised at Simon's choice for David C. but with David's imagination, maybe he will do something good with it. I think Simon just wants to see if he can do something other than rock. DC showed that with the second Neil Diamond song and Simon didn't like it. So we'll see. ~ eom. Linda

David Archuleta’s Dad Banned from Idol?

    http://mjsbigblog.com/david-archuletas-dad-banned-from-idol.htm

According to the brainstrust at TMZ David Archuleta’s dad, Jeff Archuleta is banned, baby!

Here’s how it went down. “Idol” sources tell TMZ Jeff has been a complete pain in the ass, interfering with the entire production. He has badgered producers, the band, vocal coaches and even other contestants. The final straw came this week, when Jeff wanted to change the lyrics to David’s first song, “Stand By Me.” Jeff insisted on adding a verse from Sean Kingston’s hit, “Beautiful Girls.” Producers sent him an e-mail telling him the lyrics could not be changed. They were beyond pissed when David sang the song with Kingston’s lyrics during the live show.

We’re told by changing the lyrics, it created problems with the song’s publisher and cost “A.I.” a lot of money.

Jeff was ordered to sit with “A.I.” lawyers on Wednesday, who told him he was “banned from being in the rooms where David was learning or rehearsing his songs.” It’s “Idol’s” position, since David is 17, he does not need a guardian — just a teacher. Jeff will be allowed to sit in the audience during the live show but he’s 86′d from anything backstage.
Sources say the other contestants were fed up with Jeff and didn’t want him near them. Now they have their wish.

I generally avoid linking to TMZ , but I’m making an exception here, ’cause I have a feeling the story is true. Where there’s smoke there’s fire ya know.

In a matter of hours, E! Online, Entertainment Weekly, MTV et al are gonna be all over this story. More will be revealed, I’m sure.

ETA: An excellent question brought up by peeps in comments. Did TPTB leak this story to TMZ? Most of us believe the producers themselves link information to TMZ . If Idol leaked this story, what’s their motivation?

    Speculate and discuss!
