Following on with susienews' daily topic last night, I have a few additional random questions (ARQ!!!) for you ...

What have you done that you never thought you could/would do?

What reminds you of someone you love?

What is your earliest memory?

What is the oldest thing in your refrigerator?

What is something that you did as a kid that you miss doing now?

* * * * * * * * * *

Flown in a helicopter.

Original Jergens Hand Lotion (cherry almond) reminds me of my dear departed Aunt Joan.

I was still sleeping in a crib so I was under two.  I remember waking up with very hot feet and finding that I had slept all night with my pink bunny slippers on.

A bottle of super hot sauce that just has a tiny bit left in it.

I miss ice skating.  We went to the arena every Friday night during the winter.  It was our hang out place.  The last time I ice skated as a grown up I tripped and crushed the muscles in my forearm.  That was it for me!

What have you done that you never thought you could/would do? Get married and be happy as the first experience didn't make it.

What reminds you of someone you love? Songs and English Leather

What is your earliest memory?  Having my father swing me round and round.

What is the oldest thing in your refrigerator?  An onion.

What is something that you did as a kid that you miss doing now? Going to Coney Island with my father.

Replies: (list all replies)

  • We went to Coney Island a LOT. Loved it there. HOW my parents did it - 5 kids on a train to NYC then 2 subways. It's a wonder we all made it each time.eom/WE
  • Coney Island is, unfortunately, nowhere near the same. I hear it might be coming down to make condos. Remembering those times makes it seem like a dream - going and having such fun, having no fear.. MM
  • I'm glad your second marriage took, MM. You were just saving the best for last! 'Songs and English Leather' sounds like the title of a book, or perhaps ... a song! It is evident that your father played a key role in your life. You obviously miss him very much. I'm guessing that when you smell English Leather, it is him you think of. ...valleygirl

What have you done that you never thought you could/would do?------That would be going to college, getting two degrees and the real big one.......getting A's and B's in Math/Algebra!

What reminds you of someone you love?------Usually it's songs.

What is your earliest memory?------Being in Nursery school, eating graham crackers and drinking milk, playing on the slide with the painted fish on the sides and lying on my green kitten "blankie".

What is the oldest thing in your refrigerator?------I don't know and I don't want to find out! ;-)

What is something that you did as a kid that you miss doing now?------Swimming in my grandparents' pool next door with all of my friends during the summer months. My grandparents would always treat us to root beer floats and M&M's after we swam.

    Replies: (list all replies)

  • whenever we would visit my grandparents, grandma would give each of kids (4) our own little bowl w/ M&Ms and we handled everyone like it was gold before we ate it. What a treat! we loved the M&M's. - Kris
  • Congratulations, CG. You've worked hard and done a great job these last few years. Now you are reaping the rewards of your new life. Yay You! And hey ... A's and B's in Math? I am in awe of your Math aptitude! You've come full circle, seeing as your first memory has to do with school. What nice memories you have of your grandparents. And Happy Birthday to your brother, today! ...valleygirl

What reminds you of someone you love? Every piece of music places someone/some relationship in my mind
What is your earliest memory? Taking a walk in a neighborhood park with my mother. She sat me up on a tree stump to re-tie my Keds-Kids-Keds.
What is the oldest thing in your refrigerator? Bottle of lemon juice.
What is something that you did as a kid that you miss doing now? Spending time with my (late) Grandpa

  • Hi, starfish! It is commonly represented that public speaking is the foremost fear we have. You may consider yourself a conquerer! Ahh yes, music conjures up so many memories. Granddaughters and grandfathers ... what a sweet relationship. We have two granddaughters and two grandsons ... the boys think grandpa is pretty cool, but the girls adore the ground he walks on! (And he loves that!) ...valleygirl

What have you done that you never thought you could/would do?  I swallowed every bit of pride that I had (and a couple of glasses of wine), mustered up courage that I didn't know I had and called my ex-husband after 13 years.  He made the rest extremely easy as soon as we started talking.  It was DAMN SURE WORTH IT!

What reminds you of someone you love?  Plants, flowers, nice smells.  Doing the right thing.  Not being rude.  Treating other people nice.  Loving your Mom.  (All things that hubby exhibits.)

What is your earliest memory?  I think I was 3 years old and I wandered off at an air show.  One of the senior commanders picked me up and held me in his arms until my parents were found.  He told me that I could come live with him and that I'd have a dog and new brothers and sisters etc.  I totally believed him.  Then my Daddy ran to get me and I'll never forget how that felt.

What is the oldest thing in your refrigerator?  Not much.  I'm a fanatic about cleaning things out of the fridge.  I want to know that if I grab something out of there, it's good.

What is something that you did as a kid that you miss doing now? Probably having sleep overs with all the girls.

    Replies: (list all replies)

  • Sounds like that was the best phone call you ever made, katiesbeach. I'm so glad everything worked out for you both. I can just imagine the relief both you and your dad felt when you were safely back in his arms. Weekend sleepovers with friends were a riot! And they were a riot of a different sort when I experienced them from the parent's perspective! LOL ...valleygirl
  • I'm not familiar w/ your story if you told it before, but does that mean you and your x got back together after 13 years? sounds like a grand love story. - kris

    Great questions, thanks VG!

What have you done that you never thought you could/would do?
Not to be gross, but changing an adult's diaper. When my MIL was sick, I had to do this for her, along with bathing her and cleaning her wound. I never thought I had it in me, babies are different, adults, no way! But I did it, and she's better.

What reminds you of someone you love?
My house. It reminds me of the journey the hubby and I have made since college, going on 16 years married. We have 3 beautiful kids and every day I drive up to my house, I feel blessed. I just forget I'm blessed when the kids start driving me crazy and the hubby asks what I've done all day!

    What is your earliest memory?
I was about 2, I remember wearing an orange and pink romper, then sitting on an ant hill. It hurt so bad! My mother rubbed some cream on me and I felt better. When I related this story to her, she was amazed, she swears I was only about 1 and a 1/2 when it happened.

What is the oldest thing in your refrigerator?
A jar of salsa from Labor day, thanks for reminding me! I have garbage pick up tomorrow, so I'd better throw it out!

What is something that you did as a kid that you miss doing now?
Shallow perhaps, but I miss being the center of my universe. Now with 3 kids, a hubby, an aging mother and a sick MIL, I put my needs last.

Thanks for the fun, may you all have a blessed day!

  • It's amazing the things we do for love, amie. I worked as a nurses assistant in a nursing home for a time, and though I worried during my training about toileting and adult diaper changes, I didn't find it a problem at all. It was the heavy lifting and transferring of residents that brought about my decision to stop working and continue volunteering, which is what led me to the career in the first place. Like you, I was able to appreciate the blessings of daily life amidst the craziness of living it. With the children grown, things have settled considerably. Hang in there! What an early memory! I'm thinking they were fire ants? That salsa may be wearing a fur coat. Glad to serve as a reminder for you. Ahh, but now you are the center of your family's universe, and that's even better, isn't it? ...valleygirl

What have you done that you never thought you could/would do?  Own my own business, be in a television commerical, all kinds of things.  My life surprises me.

What reminds you of someone you love?  Pretty much everything reminds me of someone.

What is your earliest memory?  Lying on the bottom bunk bed in a room I shared with my older sister, looking at the springs of the mattress above me and studying the pattern.  I'm guessing I was about 2 because we didn't have that arrangement for very long.

What is the oldest thing in your refrigerator?  Probably some sort of condiment.  That stuff seems to hang around forever.

What is something that you did as a kid that you miss doing now?  Having my Mother's brothers & sisters (& spouses) over for a visit.  They were nice people and very laid back.  She came from a really large family and most of them are dead now.  I used to enjoy having everyone together and getting teased by my uncles.

    Replies: (list all replies)

  • Oh, do tell, i&b ... what type of business did you own and what was the commercial for? I wholeheartedly agree with you ... I find my life to be a constant source of amazement and surprise, yet grounded and secure at the same time. I think there are a lot of fond bunk bed memories out there. I, too, come from a large, close family so I know the warmth of which you speak. We have lost a number of well-loved family members over the years, but we've had additions as well ... the circle of life. ...valleygirl
  • Circle of life, for sure. I lost all those aunts and uncles and gained an army of nieces & nephews. My business was freelance interior decorating. I gave it up when I married Mr. Ingy because I did it in addition to my 9-5 job in the legal field. I loved it -- had a great time transforming other people's rooms and shopping on their dime. The commercial was for a local company that sold copy machines. There were some close-ups of me and they had me stand in the foreground of every shot, so it was impossible to miss me. The commercial ran for years so it was seen a lot. It was weird to have people stop me and say, ''I know you from somewhere....'' or ''You look so familiar...'' Occasionally, they'd even say, ''You're the girl from the Such & Such commercial.'' It always happened when I least expected and caught me off guard. You just don't think people pay that much attention. ~i&b
  • That sounds like wonderful fun, i&b! Have you returned to the legal field since your move to Ohio, or would you perhaps think of taking up interior design there? It could be that I've seen you on TV! ...valleygirl
  • I took a year off after our move but I'm back in the legal field again now. I switched specialties from litigation to intellectual property (patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets). I would love to do real estate staging full-time, I really loved doing that. But I'm not comfortable giving up a steady income. ~i&b

  • I'm go glad you found your Mr. Right, Angela. How long have you and Vin been married? I love shamrocks, too. They are just so Irish! I don't know where you stand on tattoos (they are not for me ... seeing them on my kids is plenty enough tattoo for me) but have you ever thought of getting a small shamrock tattoo in tribute to your mom? LOL ... what a surprise Santa got while trying to surprise you! I think that happens to him a LOT. What a tragedy losing your brother at such a young age. It must have been so hard on your entire family. I'm glad you have such fond memories of playing with him. For you, Angela ... ...valleygirl

What have you done that you never thought you could/would do? As a child I was SO SHY. I always wanted to perform and knew I could. And DID!

What reminds you of someone you love? Springtime reminds me of mom. Her birthday is the first day of Spring and on Easter she'd get flowers for her garden. Having asthma she couldn't have any in the house.

What is your earliest memory? Being tossed in the air constantly by very tall men (lol). Mom had nephews her age and I told them it was their fault I was askeered of roller coasters.

What is the oldest thing in your refrigerator? Afraid to go and look. Probably mayo or something like that.

What is something that you did as a kid that you miss doing now? Being tossed in the air by very tall men!!!!!

  • I was terribly shy as well, but, strangely enough, excelled at public speaking ... I'd just pretend I was someone else, and taught valleydaughter to do the same thing ... I guess that's performing, eh? Of course, you are in a whole n'other category, and it was such fun hearing your stories. Hey, valleyguy coulda tossed you around a bit ... if we'd only known! LOL An entire season of rememberance for yor mom, filled with flowers, which we see everywhere. You are a lucky girl. ...valleygirl

morning... I missed yesterday's topic and gee I thought I checked in a few times at least... well I'll give part 2 a shot.

What have you done that you never thought you could/would do?  own my own home all by my lonesome (ok, now I really need a job if I'm gonna keep it!)

What reminds you of someone you love?  I have so many things from my grandmother she's in my thoughts all the time (furniture, dishes, glasses, silverware, towels).

What is your earliest memory?  I was in a stroller at my grandmother's in the Bronx and it was snowing.  I remember sticking out my tongue to try and catch snowflakes.

What is the oldest thing in your refrigerator?  lime juice from when I was in my Cosmo phase

What is something that you did as a kid that you miss doing now?  our family vacations camping, driving bugging our parents!

    Replies: (list all replies)

  • Not to worry, kris ... it was nearly midnight when susie posted ... you're not losing it! Owning your own home on one income is surely an accomplishment, and the return of that income is just an interview away. I have an afghan my grandmother crocheted for me, and I think of her everytime I snuggle up under it. We're thinking of taking the family camping this summer, including the grandkids, BUT valleyguy wants the two of us to rent a small cabin and let the young 'uns tent it. I figure we can just sleep in the Vue. We shall see! ...valleygirl
  • Bob and I can't wait to pack up the car and go camping... hopefully Memorial Day weekend. A cabin sounds like fun as well. We've been lookign and discussing small campers, so far we can't agree! LOL not to mention the job/finance issue! - Kris and thanks for your ongoing support. just one phone call someone please!
