Additional Comments:

I have to be honest, not having a young girl in my home or boys who are interested in Miley Cyrus, I had no clue as to who she was.  In fact not too long ago I had to google who  Hannah Montana was because I thought Miley and Hannah were two different people.

The only thing I did know, was that Miley was Billy Ray Cyrus' daughter and they were on a TV show together as father and daughter.  Billy Ray Cyrus, from what I knew was the guy that made the one hit song and then disappeared off the music charts.

So recently, having a subscription to EW, I saw pictures of BRC with his daughter.  They sort of made me go ick.  Then with all the recent news about Ms Cyrus posing for Vanity Fair, I saw the pictures of her, and of her and her DAD, and I went ick.

Sooooooooooo...I'm asking you, and those with young children who are interested in this person, what is your take on this ''couple'' and what do you think of the recent photos in Vanity Fair?

I probably won't be able to get back to you for a while but I really would appreciate knowing your opinion.

My 5 yr old daughter really likes Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus.  Her music pretty "bubble gum" to me, but the beat is fun and the lyrics send a good message to kids who are listening. I should know, because although I cannot understand what Miley is singing, my daughter can and has learned all the words to her favorite songs.

I have seen only one of the photos on TV. I do not find that one distasteful, but do I want my daughter seeing it? No. Her young mind wouldn't understand.

I was in my local Wal*Mart yesterday looking around, particularly for capri's and shorts and what do I see?  Loads of Hannah Montana shorts and capri's along with tee shirts, etc. They filled two sections.  I then walked over to the toy section to buy my 3 1/2 nephew a few books and again there are rows of Hannah Montana toys - everything had her mark on them.  I have two young nieces that love her so I tuned into one of the shows and I didn't see anything great although I am not in their age range (darn LOL).

I never really had paid attention to her until cable news started showing those pictures constantly.  The one that bothers me the most is the one with her father.  No one can tell me that wasn’t supposed to look sensual.  That’s just creepy and I don’t believe that her parents didn’t realize it.

If she was trying to reach an older crowd it still didn’t make sense.  So many of these young girls end up doing stupid things…even with parents who are supposedly guiding them.  I think since her father is a has-been, he’ll do whatever it takes to get attention for her, which means more money.  Shame on him.

  • Yeah, before his daughter hit the bigtime, he was destined to go down in history as the Achy Breaky guy. Now it seems like he's determined to bank as much money as he can from his daughter's fame before she reaches the legal age when she has full control of her assets./KWF
  • Vivian, I didn't think that badly about her photos either, but like you the one with her dad, IMHO, was distasteful. I couldn't see myself posing for a similar picture with Robert or Micheal. That photo, with her dad bothered me too. KWF,yes, it does seem like he is benefiting from his daughter's popularity and fame. izi

I have mixed feelings. With a 6 year old who looks up to MS. I am outraged that she never thought about her fans...but I think if I did not have a daughter who looked up to her...I don't think it would of bothered me as much. ..although I did have to buy Vic sneakers today & I did. There was Hannah Montana sneakers & they had Vic's size & was in my price range..I just could not buy them...I know if this did not happen I would of suprised Vic w/ them.

  • I have a young daughter that likes her too. I'm mad. I'm not surprised. That's show biz for ya'. But, I AM mad. I was actually wondering how long it would take. Billy was so proud of his daughter who had her head screwed on right. What's wrong with YOUR head Billy? Sue
  • Angela and Sue, I think her parents ok the photo shoot because it is Vanity Fair, They probably got a pretty penny for it . I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of her young fans did hear about it and googled the pictures. I also suspect a lot of her young fans probably liked then too. izi

I think it's just much ado about nothing.  I don't see anything wrong with the pictures, either one of them.   The one with the sheet - not much different than the DRAPE we wore when taking our Senior pics.  It's not a sexual pose, nothing is showing.  Would be wonderful as a personal photo but I do think it should probably NOT be in a national magazine only because of those that will see it as provocative... but then again, if someone is looking for something provocative, they could have found it in almost anything.  I guess it's all in how you look at something.  Would there have been the same hoopla if Miley had been wearing a bikini?  or maybe a nightgown?  Heck, I think if Miley had been wearing a flannel granny nighty, there would be those that would STILL think it was provocative.

Do I think the photos are distasteful - NO!  Do I think they should have put the pictures that could so easily be misinterpreted of a 15 yr old in a national magazine?  - NO...

  • I think of it this way. If that were my daughter, SHIRTLESS (I don't care if she covered her front - she was still shirtless) - hair style in a sexy, tousled look, sexy pout on her face, makeup, there's NO way in heck I'd let that photo be taken. I don't blame her. She's 15. I blame the parents for allowing it. Sue
  • You don't think that photo looks like the girl has just had a roll in the hay and the other one looks more like girlfriend/boyfriend than father/daughter? And it's not a matter of having a gutter mind, it's pretty clear what the subtext is. I think you're really stretching, but that's your opinion. ~i&b

My two granddaughters, aged 9 and 11, think she's 'all that and a bag of chips' so I was quite disappointed when I heard her sing for the first time.  She was okay, but nothing special.  I haven't seen any of the VF pictures, nor do I want to, but from what you have said, I hope my granddaughters are not subjected to them.  The apologies are an afterthought ... the controversy has already been put out there ... and there is no such thing as bad PR, so they say.  It's quite possible this is a PR ploy.

  • I don't get it though. She's worth millions and is everywhere. She needs more PR? Someone might think she needs to change her image to appeal to a slightly older crowd, but she's only 15 and her parents should've known better. I blame them. Sue
  • VG - can you believe her concerts sell out before tickets hit ticketmaster! I don't know how this is possible but I wanted to get tickets for her AC show. I saw in front of the computer hitting refresh until it popped up they were ''on sale'' and I got the message they were sold out. They were going to be a stocking stuffer so I was a little disappointed at first - for my daughter. In a way I was glad that I didn't have to sit through her concert! LOL - kimipaggz

  • Sue, I , too, blame her parents and find it hard to believe they didn't realize the repercussions of this, which is what makes me think it may have been a PR ploy. As for her millions, the thinking may well be 'Gotta make hay while the sun is shining!' kimi, the radio stations bought up a lot of tickets to give away, but still, they were sold out very quickly. My heart was warmed by the young girl that auctioned off her ticket to help towards a friend's cure ... don't remember the details exactly, but it was a wonderfully thoughtful thing for a young girl to do. ...valleygirl
  • The one and only time I have seen Miley perform was on Idol Gives Back! LOL ...valleygirl
  • Ticketmaster is corrupt. They sell to scalpers and scalpers know that parents will spend tons to make their kids happy. She's the hot item these days. She didn't need to do this. Sue
  • She absolutely did not need to do this. It was a bad call. ...valleygirl

Having a daughter who will be 12 next month and who likes Miley/Hannah I certainly wouldn't want her seeing those pictures.   I don't think they were very tasteful.  I saw them on television the other morning.   I really didn't think she would have done these types of pictures.  I do like her show, I think it's cute, but like I said I certainly don't want my daughter seeing the pictures of her half dressed.

She's overrated as a singer and overexposed. She's everywhere. She's ridiculously rich and I just don't get it.

As for the VF photos, her parents were at the photo shoot. She's 15. What were they thinking?

  • I think she is overrated as a singer too. She's not bad but honestly I don't think she's a superstar - kimipaggz
  • Ditto what Sue said. That photo of her sprawled out with her legs open is just WAY too sexual for a portrait with Dear Ole Dad. ~i&b
  • Wow, you must have seen a different pic than I did. Her legs are not SPREAD, she has her knees bent and one is crossed over the other... see inside. /Gma b@s
  • Okay, I didn't have the photo in front of me. But the point is still valid -- that is way too sexy of a pose for a portrait with dad. He looks more like lovers than father and daughter. ~i&b
