here here on VA... very sad.  Speedy recovery if that's possible.  Thanks for the topical topic Angela...

(1) What is the average gas prices by you?   we got gas on Sunday and it was $3.79 (Long Island)

(2) Are you trying to cut back on gas prices (do all errands in one day, car pool..etc...?)  I've always done that, so my habits have not changed.

(3) What was the cheapest gas price you had ever seen?  If you mean recently, we went to AC on Sat. and it was $3.43 in Jersey, however, we in NY were paying that a couple weeks ago... its changing daily.

(4) If you had to buy a vechile today..what would you consider buying..big or small vechile?  Absolutely, that's why Bob chose the car he did since when he commutes from here he drives 90 miles round trip.  But honestly, think about the folks who claim they can't put 2-3 car seats in the back seat and then opt for huge vans or SUV's - I mean the huge ones... I don't want to offend anyone... How many families buy bigger homes so kids don't have to share a bedroom and are now in foreclosure cause they could never afford that huge home in the first place... bigger and better just cause.  I'm much more practical, have no outstanding debts thank God and especially grateful now that I'm unemployed and its enough to pay the mortgage and monthly bills, if I had debt on top of that, I'd lose my mind.  I just think in the last 20 years people have generally lived beyond their means and its all falling apart now.  sorry to  ramble.

(5) Who do you think is to blame for gas prices?  Vicious cycle, but I know the oil companies are turning major profits while we're all suffering.  I heard another theory recently that I thought was interesting, how middle east is trying to hold us hostage to oil and so in turn our food prices are going up (for exports as well) - thinking, they need food more than we need oil.  Now I don't know how much of that is true, but it sorta makes sense... it just sucks all around.

(6) With the price of gas..Do you plan on making changes to your summer plans?   Not because of gas... because of being out of work, yes.  Heck 3 years ago we were complaining when gas was $2.50 and they said everyone would change plans, but people do what they want to do.   If I get a get a job, can catch up and get a vacation, believe me I'm taking it.   We just went to KY this past week and spent $250 for gas, but for 3 of us, still cheaper than flying.  We had a great time.

  • Where in AC did you go? That's my neck of the woods - I'm 15 minutes from AC. If you know anything about my area you know what you said about the homes and cars is right here. People bought these $600K homes, etc... and now they are losing them. I don't know how some of them got approved in the first place. Thankfully we bought our home before that boom and didn't pay an inflated price for our home on 3 acres. How some people sleep at night is beyond me.- kimipaggz
  • We went to the House of Blues at the Showboat to see the Wallflowers... that's it, no gambling, just dinner and the concert and home... I HATE gambling and casinos in general but it was their only area appearance so I had to see them! - Kris
  • I don't go to the casinos to gamble either. I like going for shows or dinner. I like the House of Blues its a cozy place. I went to a blues concert there a few months ago, it was fun. We had dinner in the club, then saw the show. - kimipaggz
  • krisa225..the highest i seen was $ 3.85 here on LI. I heard it is suppose to go as high as $5 a gallon by July.../Angela

    1) What is the average gas prices by you?   Today I paid $3.39

    (2) Are you trying to cut back on gas prices (do all errands in one day, car pool..etc...?) I only work 5 miles from my home, so I don't worry about it too much

    (3) What was the cheapest gas price you had ever seen?  I think I was paying about .50 cents a gallon when I started driving

    (4) If you had to buy a vechile today..what would you consider buying..big or small vechile? I would get what I wanted regardless.  But I tend to stick with smaller cars.

    (5) Who do you think is to blame for gas prices? I really don't know.  Supply and demand.

    (6) With the price of gas..Do you plan on making changes to your summer plans? Not really, although I will think twice about paying more for an airplane ticket.

Good afternoon.  The weather sure is unpredictable.  After summer-like temps for the last five or six days, we had a freak blizzard in one small area of Toronto at 7:30 this morning, that left a couple of inches of snow on the ground.

    * * * * * * * * * *

    (1) What is the average gas prices by you?  $4.80 per U.S. gallon.

    (2) Are you trying to cut back on gas prices (do all errands in one day, car pool..etc...?)  We try to watch our fuel consumption, but we are in and out of Toronto every week.  We only use our air con when absolutely necessary, and we try to group our errands, when possible.

    (3) What was the cheapest gas price you had ever seen?  I think I remember it being around .36 (imperial gallon) when I was a child, and I know I remember it being about .49 in 1971.  My boyfriend would get 2 gallons of gas for under a buck!

    (4) If you had to buy a vehicle today..what would you consider buying..big or small vehicle?  Funny you should ask.  We just bought a new  2008 Saturn Vue, last Tuesday, and picked it up on Friday.  It is one of the new crossover utility vehicles and averages 20 miles to the U.S. gallon (30 to the Imperial gallon which is the Canadian measurement, and makes me feel so much better), which is on a par with the fuel consumption of the minivan we've been driving for the last 11 years.  Now we're fueling two thirsty vehicles.

    (5) Who do you think is to blame for gas prices?  Corporate greed, political greed, supply and demand, the consumer ... we can all take a share of the blame.

    (6) With the price of gas..Do you plan on making changes to your summer plans?  Probably not.  Our main vacation plans take place in November, but we will be travelling in the summer, though we haven't decided where yet.

    Thanks, Angela!

  • I was checking out that Vue but it was too small for us. It is a nice car. So really it doesn't get much better gas mileage than my Jeep gets. That's surprising. My parents bought a Kia and their gas mileage stinks on that car too - kimipaggz
  • For the size of it you would expect it to do better on mileage, but it is a very heavy vehicle, weighing in at 4 tons. The equivalent in Jeep was the Compass, but it didn't hold a candle to the Vue. Your Commander is a nice looking SUV, but way more that we needed. What colour did you get? We went with techno grey, which is actually darker than the picture above shows. ...valleygirl
  • VG, that's surprising about the gas... I believe our Santa Fe gets about 32 mpg on the highway, locally its not great, but I do everything at once for the most part so I don't worry too much. - kris
  • We bought the White Jeep with the Gray interior. I suppose the gas mileage stinks because it is so boxy - no aerodynamics. It is only a six cylinder but it's AWD 4X4 all the time. It drives really nice and is comfy for long trips. We just took it to OC Maryland and this weekend we are going to VA Beach for the last cheerleading competition - thank God! - kimipaggz
  • kris, as I said it's the weight, and it's one of the thirstier CUV's out there. Your Santa Fe gets great mileage, and is a beauty, but we had to be loyal to a domestic vehicle, seeing as valleyguy works in the automotive sector. ...valleygirl
  • valleygirl...I agree w/ you about who is to blame about gas prices.../Angela

    Good afternoon all.

    1) What is the average gas prices by you? Well luckily in NJ we now have something that is finally one of the lowest in the nation (but how long will that last with Corzine?) I think it's around $3.41 today

    (2) Are you trying to cut back on gas prices (do all errands in one day, car pool..etc...?) I wish I could.  It seems like everyday I have someplace I have to go.  My daughter does the competitive cheerleading and this week I'm running out there 3 nights.  Thankfully one of the moms drove one way and I the other on Monday night.  I have to drive my son to school everyday and the two days I work I run him to my dads which is the opposite way from work, etc...So NO unfortunately I haven't been able to save on gas.

    (3) What was the cheapest gas price you had ever seen? I think like .89 like in 1989, 1990

    (4) If you had to buy a vechile today..what would you consider buying..big or small vechile?  Unfortunately I just got a new car and it is HORRIBLE on gas.  It's a Jeep Commander 4X4 so it sucks the gas.

    (5) Who do you think is to blame for gas prices? I honestly don't know, but I wish someone would do something to get them lower.

    (6) With the price of gas..Do you plan on making changes to your summer plans?  No.  We plan on taking a vacation at some point.  We are either going to drive to VA or do something totally different (any ideas????).  We were thinking about maybe going to Denver, or someplace where we can go a lot of outdoor activities.  Keep in mind we live in NJ right by the beach so we are looking for something different to do - like in the mountains, etc...

  • Hey there Kimi! Hope things are well with you and the family! Your new Jeep might not have good gas mileage but they are VERY COOL vehicles!! :) Have a fantabulous day! ~A&A's Mom
  • It is a cool car and it has the third row seating which flips up or down real easily. We also bought a navagation and dvd system to put in the car which is really cool. Now I can watch DVDs from the passenger seat since the main unit is in the dash and my kids can watch it on the overhead screen. We might even buy the tuner for it so we can get television (only Disney channel right now is available) - kimipaggz
  • kimi....it still seem like a lot of money($3.41) ...i hope it stays that way or goes even lower../Angela

Good afternoon all!  I have a little down time right now so I thought I'd come over and play!

    (1) What is the average gas prices by you?   right now it is around $3.49

    (2) Are you trying to cut back on gas prices (do all errands in one day, car pool..etc...?) Maybe a little......we just moved out to the country (my great-grandparents farm) so I do try to do things 'in town' after work or during my lunch and not come home and go back out.

    (3) What was the cheapest gas price you had ever seen? I remember when I got my license it was like 89 cents a gallon.....maybe cheaper.  But one time when I was about 8 or 10 my family and I went out west for our summer vacation and it was the first time my daddy had ever let me pump gas and it was 56 cents a gallon.

    (4) If you had to buy a vechile today..what would you consider buying..big or small vechile?

I just bought a 2007 VW Jetta in October.  It gets pretty good mileage but the 1996 Pontiac Sunfire that I have had since it was brand new gets about 40 mpg but I gave it to my Ally!  I don't think I would buy a hybrid but I wouldn't buy a huge SUV either!

    (5) Who do you think is to blame for gas prices? everyone...........

    (6) With the price of gas..Do you plan on making changes to your summer plans? Nope, not at all..........

  • Allys Mom..that is a great idea... do everything before you get home..instead of having to go out again... /Angela
  • Angela.....I don't know if that is because I'm trying to save gas or just being lazy! LOL ~A&A's Mom
  • Nice to see you, Ally's Mom. Congrats to Ally on getting her license! ...valleygirl
  • I've always been the type of person who ran all my errands on the way home from work, once I'm in the house I'm in. Weekends are for things I couldn't do during the evening. - kris

I think the cheapest is $3.90.  SF is the first city in the mainland U.S. to average $4 a gallon. Maui reached that goal last month.

    (2) Are you trying to cut back on gas prices (do all errands in one day, car pool..etc...?)
I don't do a lot of driving in general, so I haven't had to make any changes.  My commute is 10 miles round trip.  Mr. News works from home.

    (3) What was the cheapest gas price you had ever seen?
Ever?  I remember when it was under $1/gallon.  But I was WAY too young to care.  LOL!  I have vague recollections of the shortage of the early '70s with the green and red flags.  Now?  If it's close to $3.50, it's cheap.

    (4) If you had to buy a vechile today..what would you consider buying..big or small vechile?
If I could afford a hybrid, I'd get one in a heartbeat!  Not the Prius, though.  Not a fan of how the Prius resembles a UFO.  Mr. News and I bought a Subaru Outback last summer and it's been great.  It gets an average of 24 mpg, which is terrific for an AWD.  We needed AWD for our trips to the mountains.  Mr. News' car is a Honda Del Sol, which is getting better gas mileage now (with 200K + miles on it) than it did when it was new!

    (5) Who do you think is to blame for gas prices?
We are.  As a nation.  We're too dependent on fuel and we waited this long to start thinking about environmental impact.  I keep hearing people complain about the price of gas, but they don't DO anything about it.  Of course I don't think Bush and Cheney and their connections to big oil are entirely blameless either.

    (6) With the price of gas..Do you plan on making changes to your summer plans?
Nope.  The only vacation we're planning that involves driving will be to Tahoe.  We'll make that trip no matter what.  Of course gas prices are affecting the cost of airline tickets, too.

  • Hi Susienews - i live in the SF BayArea too and it cost me $75 at the pump yesterday (i drive a minivan) but i think it was an automatic cutoff point because i dont think it filled the tank - pretty scary ! Good thing i'm only 15 minutes from work and thats the only driving i do aside from shopping nearby. We're going to Tahoe too in July and thats about it for travel. ~mrsk
  • susienews..here on LI... I saw $3.85 this morning..I just hope there is some relief this summer. We are planning a trip to PA..Dutch Wonderland/Hershey Park/Thomas the Train...etc...Vin says he will not cancel plans but we need to conserve in other ways..doing errands all together..also 1 trip tp the supermarket each week (or at least try).../Angela
  • susie, we briefly considered the Saturn hybrid, but in addition to the cost it was a looong wait to get it ... the dealers are having trouble getting them in ... wonder who's palms are being greased to cause that little glitch? Angela, we had a fabulous trip from Ohio through PA to Hersey Park last summer. You might also enjoy Indian Echo Caverns while you are there. PA is such a beautiful state. We ended up at Hershey Park on a super hot day, but enjoyed it despite the heat. It severely restricted our chocolate buying, but that was probably a good thing! ...valleygirl
