Subject: Jig: I didn't say it was on the level of global warming or national security. But that doesn't mean that the condition of soaps isn't serious. Have you noticed that we've gone from 15 soaps on the air down to something like 7?! As of next fall we'll be losing yet another soap that has been on the air for over 50 yrs! Soaps have been a staple for actors, being some of the most steady work for them for over 80 yrs. New actors have gotten their professional starts on soaps. Viewers have first seen some of their favorite actors on soaps. Not to mention the support businesses, in and out of the industry, that are negatively impacted every time a soap bites the dust. While there may be some things to like about the show now, it isn't living up to its potential--but then soaps haven't been, across the board, for almost two decades. eom
