Topic: AMC and Piwacket

Additional Comments: This is going to take a minute. Years ago, my Sue worked outside our company and during her hour lunch would pick up Micky D's arrive home at 1:15 and we'd lunch during the middle half hour of AMC. Well, that's not so special, but this twist is--out tiger cat ''Piwacket'' would join us at the table and there would always be a Chicken McNugget for her on her special plate, yes at the table. It didn't take very many lunches before she recognized the theme song to AMC and when it came on the tellie at 1:00 pm she would get in 'her' chair at the table and await *mom* to show up with nuggies. AMC theme accompanied by 'meow'. If Sue was ever late by more than a minute or two Piwacket would go the table by the window and watch for the car! Seriously. Our tiger; Piwacket was an AMC addict--albeit with a food training trick. Does your dog or cat watch AMC? Ours did.

Hey Quinn, do you happen to have a Chairy and a giant crater in your back yard? If so, good to know you're an AMC fan. I should say a fan of the former AMC.

  • Ummm, I'm famous for not proofing my quick notes--but ''Chairy'' and crater? Well, no, no crater but we do drink well water from a 4'' well. Does that count?--Quinn
  • nope, I have a friend living near Diamond Head with a wife maned Sue and a cat named Piwacket. Just checking ZA
  • Wow! Diamond Head. Beats the crap out of my cold ol' Michigan. Color me envy.--Quinn

Well, it's not AMC but my dog, Ralphie, a Jack Russell terrier loves Little Bill on Noggin. He knows the theme and comes running and will lie on his cushion and watch it. When it's over, he gets up and goes outside again. He got hooked on it when my granddaughter watched it. He doesn't like the other shows on Noggin - only Little Bill.

  • My dog must be not really bright, then..lol..she's a Toy Fox Terrier ..a rescue..I love terriers..before this I had a rat terrier for 17+ years...does your Jack Russell shed? I know they have different types of coats so perhaps yours is the type that doesn't shed...my Toy Fox is horrible..I thought the Rat Terrier was a bigtime shedder...it was awful...but THIS dog...it's phenomenal. Awful. She sheds twice a year...from April through September and October through March! SORAS
  • Obviously my Sue and I are cat people, but thanks for your ''rescue.'' We generally save the backyarders, as we live waay out in the country.--Quinn
  • Ralphie is a big time shedder. He has a really short coat but there are white hairs EVERYWHERE!!!! Our last dog was a standard poodle and she never shed. She was a wonderful dog. No, I didn't pick this dog out. My daughter felt that my grandchildren needed a dog and she didn't want one so for Christmas she bought me a Jack Russell. My Ralphie (named for the kid in ''Christmas Story'') is extremely high strung and very active and very spoiled and very noisy and very intrusive and . . . and. . . and . . . Well, you get the picture. eom/kk

A great story - I love the name Piwacket. Remember the movie Bell, Book and Candle with Jimmy Stewart and Kim Novak?  Her cat was named Piwacket.  I had a cat, Kitsal, who went in and out of the house.  She'd come to the door if I either called ''Kitsal'' or ''Chicken'' LOL.

  • I got corrected for naming her Piwacket. It was Pywacket in BB&C. Oh well, no spell check back then. She never seemed to mind being mathmatically referenced.--Quinn

My kitty comes running when she hears me making lunches in the morning, she loves lunch meat and she knows I will give her a little piece of ham or chicken. Once she has her little bite she is happy.

  • I placed my plate on the floor, after I'd eaten my roast and mashed potatoes, thinking Piwacket would like to lick the gravy. I caller her from the other room and she came running. Running too fast. Gravy is slippery. But the good news is that kittie fur mops up gravy just fine. Embarrassed her every time I told the story.--Quinn

  • Why do kitties, when lying on the bed, lie exactly perpendicular to you, at knee height? I'm just curious why the can't seem to share their space on a Queen Size bed?--Quinn

I tend to agree with goldie..my dog has food signals...she knows when I go to the kitchen and get my car keys out of the ceramic pumpkin (she can hear when I lift the lid) - it's one of 2 happy things:  she's either going in the car with me, or she's getting a biscuit before I leave.

In the evening, I swear she could tell how many chimes she heard on the clock and knew when it was her dinner time...but when I changed her dinner time and made it earlier, she still seemed to start to get excited for food at that new time..when the clock doesn't chime.

So I believe food cues or an internal clock telling the animal it's food time are the motivator.

However that doesn't mean it's impossible...I've seen videos of animals who seem to be fascinated by certain TV shows.  Your pet probably enjoys that routine with AMC and counts on it...AMC means chicken nuggets at the table with family.  That's reason enough for an Emmy nomination...lord knows the writing isn't worthy these days!

Sorry Quinn, but I think Piwacket was more a Chicken McNugget fan than an AMC fan. The theme song for AMC meant yum yum Chicken McNuggett. Iam about to that point myself, I think Iam going to start needing some kind of bribe to watch in the future. :)

  • Not only that, but the writing was better back then, too! Come to think of it, when the Nuggies were gone, Piwacket generally wandered off. I guess Cat Loyalty. Even when Palmer ran the Chicken Shack. Gawd, I miss Piwacket.--Quinn
