Perceptive.  Witty.  Honest.  I totally agree with her speaking  of the history of a soap and the history of a character...I posted on that topic last week on this board.  It's true..when the core families of the book are gone...why not just end it and call it something else.

I thought she was very respectful of soap audiences as well in this piece.  She's an intelligent woman and that's been very clear.

Oh...one thing I don't agree about is saying that all the characters..and I wonder if the word "female" was left out from what she actually said...that all the female characters on AMC are victims.  I don't think they all are...everyone is victimized at times in life...how you deal with it and respond and resurrect yourself is important..and it's what soaps are made of.

Got to hand it to her, she keeps it real.  Without being mean spirited, she voiced her true feelings or at  least she wasn't schmoozing anyone so I would guess they were her true feelings.  I agreed with everything I read.

"Shortly after speaking out about a storyline on All My Children that involved a man being buried alive and his murderer getting off without so much as a slap on the wrist, McClain found herself written out of the show. Her character was felled by, of all things, poisoned pancakes. "

And all this time I thought she was given the pink slip because she wrote against the Julia Barr firing???????????

Replies: (list all replies)

  • I didn't know Julia Barr was fired. I wonder why. I think she came out against Lucci and that is a huge no-no. shebee
  • Julia Barr was not fired. They were taking her off contract to reoccuring status and she opted out. eom/ky
  • What are you talking about shebee can you back up what you have said with actual reference? Julia Barr does not ‘come out’ (whatever that means) about anyone much less a co-star like Lucci that she has ALWAYS said she loves working with. Barr even mentioned that she was disappointed that she did not have a last scene with Lucci, in I think her exit interview with one of the soap mags.
  • Julia Barr was fired; Cady wrote about it in her ABC blog Confessions of a Mad Soap Star...some of what she wrote..referring to older actresses + dangling earrings + stillettos was interpreted to mean she was slamming Susan Lucci ..saying that she can age and keep her job because it's all about the look whereas Julia Barr - who doesn't wear the stillettos and the dangly earrings - was let go....so JB was fired whether it was because her contract was not renewed or things just ended I don't know offhand but it wasn't JB's choice to leave AMC...SORAS
  • I don’t care what CM wrote, my understanding is the same as Ky from reports/interviews with JB. JB was taken off contract and SHE refused to go on recurring. Of course it was NOT her choice to leave but SHE refused the downgrade they offered her. One can take that as a way of pushing her out and one might be correct but it was not a straight out firing as JB could have stayed on like Lee Merriweather (sp) who plays Ruth and is recurring but how often do we see her six, seven times per year? Also this interview is with CM herself and it states why she was fired so I imagine SHE would know WHY she was fired, any other thought is speculation.

I think she made a lot of valid points about the state of daytime.
